Virgil H. Mewborn, III, O.D.
Carteret Vision Center is owned and operated by Virgil H. Mewborn, III, O.D. Dr. Mewborn was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1964 and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1967. After receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree, he joined his father in practice at Mewborn Eye Center in Burlington, NC. Optometry seems to be bred into Dr. Mewborn as he is a 4th generation Optometrist. His grandfather and great grandfather practiced in Kinston, Tarboro and other parts of eastern North Carolina. Dr. Mewborn practiced in Burlington until 2003, then moved to the Crystal Coast and practiced in New Bern, NC. In 2009, he purchased Carteret Vision Center and continues to enjoy the practice of Optometry. We have patients that drive from Burlington, NC (3 ½ hrs away) to have Dr. Mewborn check their eyes, vision, and fit contact lenses. He truly enjoys helping his patients with all of their eyecare needs.
